You’re not promoting yourself, your business, or your dog’s account because you feel like you can't keep up with the pressure of being consistent.
True or true?
Then I have some bad news for you: that’s how it eventually fizzles out, never to be picked up again! But it doesn’t have to be this way.
We seem to have confused consistency with perfection, which stops us from taking any action at all because nothing’s ever perfect.
This is what we think consistency means when it comes to running an online business:
Posting at the same time each day
Using the same fonts all the time
Having the same filters on every picture
Using a checkerboard layout with alternating quotes and photos
Planning content weeks and months ahead of time
There’s nothing wrong with any of that.
I’m also trying to be more consistent branding-wise. It’s actually hard to keep it nice and tidy on the ‘gram (and all other places).
But this is what it actually means:
You. Showing up. Repeat.
Confused? Don’t be. In fact, you’re probably not, because deep down we all know it... consistency alone isn’t what grows our following.
People don't follow you because you post every day at the same time. Lots of people post every day at the same time and nobody cares.
They follow you because your content is valuable to them, no matter how often it comes out. And, when it does, they do a little happy dance, make a coffee, and start reading!
Consistency is one of the keys to success, sure. You need to stay relatively fresh in the mind of your audience. But without the rest, it won’t open many doors.
So how about this? Instead of trying to be perfectly consistent all the time, try to just be interesting, relatable, and fun for a while. 💫
And take your time. I promise we’ll still be here – ready to do that dance by the coffee machine, hoping to find our glasses in time to read you!
Anca x
P.S. I know it’s hard to think about anything work-related right now, so I’ve kept it short and, hopefully, sweet. Sending you lots of love x
